Titan Fitness Functional Trainer: A Solid Choice For Home Gyms

The Titan Fitness functional trainer is a mainstay piece of equipment inside my personal garage gym. I purchased the equipment at the start of 2021 and I’ve been using it ever since. Fast forward to 2022 and the unit, which receives daily us, is still in like-new condition.

While the Titan Fitness functional trainer isn’t perfect, it’s still a very solid piece of home gym equipment that features 11-gauge steel, excellent aluminum pully, and some of the heaviest weight stacks among the home gym sector for this type of product.

For me, purchasing a functional trainer with a smaller profile was important. While my garage gym is rather larger, a unit sticking out from the wall too much was going to cause a tripping hazard. Titan Fitness, however, has created a depth profile of just 43-inches. That’s remarkably small for a unit that packs such a punch.

The unit is fairly wide with a width of 64-inches. In fact, sharing photos with some friends has led them to question if “it’s really as wide as it looks.” In terms of height, it’s fairly standard at 82-inches.

Full Measurements: 43″ x 64″ x 82″

I like that the Titan Fitness functional trainer is wide, it allows me to perform exercises that require more stretch and provides a solid area to stand inside of, leaving me with more space to perform hundreds of various exercises.

I would have actually preferred the 72″ width found on the Rep Fitness FT-5000 Functional Trainer but as you can see, my Powertec lat machine left no room for an extra 8-inches.

While measurements are important for a functional trainer, they don’t mean much if the materials used to build the unit are not sound. Titan Fitness over-built this unit with 11-gauge steel, large bolts to hold each piece into place, and large legs with width feet that keep it firmly in place when lifting heavy or performing pull-ups and chin-ups from the functional trainer’s overhead bar.

The frame is also hit with a 2 layer powder coat. I’ve been using Titan Fitness products for years and I was overjoyed to discover that the powder coat on their functional trainer is the best paint job they’ve performed to date.

It’s a very solid unit that won’t move around during even the heaviest of lifts.

Titan Fitness Functional Trainer Weight Stacks

A solid weight stack is important when considering a functional trainer purchase. Your weights are going to bang against each other, they need to glide smoothly along their bars, and they need to offer decent weight interval intervals.

Titan Fitness lists both KG and LBS on all of their weights which increase by 10 pounds each. With a 2:1 weight ratio that means you can start out at just 5-pounds of effective pull, that’s a great starting point for low resistance movements.

The stickers provided by Titan Fitness have held up well, my only qualm is that getting them to stick on in a straight line was a bit of a pain. I recommend taking the backing off one sheet at a time and applying them in unison. This doesn’t take away from the unit’s performance at all and is something I wish all functional trainer producers would figure out.

Installing the weight stacks was a bit of a pain. Titan Fitness said to install the slide rails and then simply place the weights on one at a time. Halfway through my first stack they fell over, leading me to start over after one 10 pound weight landed on my foot. Once the weight stacks were in place, I simply installed the rail collars with a few hex screws and I was good to go.

One note on those hex screws, don’t even slightly over tighten them, I very easily stripped one of the hex screwed and it’s going to be a pain to remove should I need to in the future. Titan Fitness could have used a larger, less strip-prone hex screw, it’s oddly the cheapest feeling part of the entire functional trainer.

The weight stacks are surrounded by shields that protect the weights and help fight off finger pinching. As you can see in the picture above, they are rounded and generally sleek-looking. They are easily installed with a few bolts, just make sure you follow the included directions as I originally installed them backward.

Finally, the weight stacks include a magnetic pin that does a decent job holding weights in place. My one complaint is that the 200-pound weight stack is a little stiff and I really have to push to get the pin all the way inside the hole of the weight.

Titan Fitness Pully System

The pully system on the Titan Fitness functional trainer is excellent. The two large sides of the gym equipment arrive already attached with the cables ready to go, for the most part.

The cables feature fiberglass reinforced pulleys that run alongside aluminum pully arms that are capable of moving in enough directions to perform over 1,000 different exercises.

You’ll notice that the weld points are not as clean as some other providers but they are very strong welds and the pully swivel effortlessly along their joints. There is no drag whatsoever both when pulling weights up and letting them down or when moving from left to right.

I always suggest that anyone with cable machines use synthetic Super Lube to help remove drag and increase the overall performance and longevity of their gym equipment.

The pop pins on both of the pully handles are very easy to operate and I almost never pinch my fingers in them… almost never.

Overall the pully system is shockingly great for a unit that sells for under $2500.

Titan Fitness Functional Trainer Pull-Up Bar and Accessories

I absolutely love the pull-up bar on my Titan Fitness Functional Trainer. The rubber grip is very solid and even when my hands are sweaty from HiiT or CrossFit training I can grab the handles and hold on with zero issues.

The width of the bars allow for both narrow and wide pull-ups and chin-ups and their curved design even allows me to experiment with various types of alternative grip positions. I have found myself shying away from my Rogue Cerakote pull-up bar found on my Rogue RM-4 in favor of the Tital Fitness option.

I also appreciate that the unit at just 82-inches keeps the pull-up bar right within reach, making for a simple reason to just reach up and throw in a few pull-ups or chin-ups that were not even played for my workout.

Along with the pull-up bar, Titan Fitness includes what might be industry-leading SIX accessories.

The short and long bars are frequently used in my garage gym and more than a year after purchasing this unit I have to admit that they still feel like new. I particularly like the short bar which is great for swing and ax movements with just the right amount of length to allow for proper rotations.

The ankle strap isn’t something I thought I would use a ton but it’s now used during every leg day and the velcro after several hundred uses is still holding strong, even as I increase weight levels for my leg movements.

The other included accessories all get the job done and feel decent in my hands, they are nothing to write home about but they offer an okay grip and they haven’t broken down after more than a year of use.

Titan Fitness Functional Trainer – Shipping

It’s not every day that I take about shipping quality with gym products. I remember when my Rogue RM-4 arrives with scratches because it was shipped on a pallet in a bunch of cheap boxes. The Titan Fitness functional trainer doesn’t have that problem. The crate you see above is exactly how my unit arrives.

The two end parts for the trainer were packed together in the crate, surrounded by thick styrofoam and all of the other parts were well protected and packed with just enough space to fit while avoiding shifting.

The crate was so strong that I gave it away to someone who used it for their own shipping needs.

Titan Fitness knocked the shipping of its functional trainer out of the park. Oh ya, shipping was also included in the final price which is even more impressive.

Final Thoughts

The Titan Fitness functional trainer is a shockingly great product of near-commercial grade. I still can’t believe that this trainer sells for under $2500 with shipping included. V2 of the unit has proven that Titan Fitness has listened to customer feedback and improved upon its design.
