The Rep FT-5000 functional trainer is the type of product home gym owners wish for but never expect to receive with home gym prices. Somehow, the team at Rep Fitness has created a commercial-grade product but priced it at just $2499.99 with free shipping.
That price is no small feat when you consider that the Rep FT-5000 functional trainer is built using 11-gauge steel, aircraft aluminum for its pulleys, and comes equipped with over 400 pounds of weight plates.
Rep FT-5000 Functional Trainer Weight Stacks

The FT-5000 features some of the biggest weight stacks in the home gym market. Both sides of the unit come equipped with 220 lbs of weight.
Keep in mind that the weight for this Rep Fitness function trainer features a 2:1 ratio, which means you’ll be pulling 110 pounds on each side at maximum weight output. For most people that amount of weight is going to be suitable for their maximum weight needs.
It’s also important to note that the lowest weight you can pull is 12.5 pounds oer sude, there are some smaller rotational movements where a 5-pound starting option is a very nice-to-have feature and some other trainers start with 10-pound effective pulls. It would have been nice for Rep to offer a smaller starting pull weight but that’s not even close to a deal-breaker.
The weight stacks feel very premium with a commercial-grade powder coat that looks like something you’d find in your local gym. For the weights and the actual frame, the company uses its very competent 2 layer powder coating that offers a solid look with a decent amount of scratch resistance thrown in for good measure.
What we really love about Rep Fitness functional trainers is that they really focus on the little details. For example, the weight pins this time around offer a magnetic tip to ensure they are pulled firmly into place before use.
The weights move in a silky smooth motion thanks in no small part to fiberglass reinforced pulleys, the same type of pulleys you’ll find on much more expensive units at commercial gyms.
Rep Fitness FT-5000 Frame
As previously noted, Rep Fitness has chosen 11-gauge steel for the functional trainer’s frame. This is a fairly standard gauge for trainers, even at the commercial level.
The frame is incredibly solid, an important factor when you consider the 440 pounds worth of weight stacks that it must support.
The entire unit comes at 1,001 making it one of the heaviest functional trainers we’ve found for home use.
The functional trainer’s weight is added upon thanks to several cross-members that add to its stability alongside large bolts that hold the frame in place.
I was also very pleasantly surprised with the weld points created by the Rep Fitness team. In fact, once assembled, the unit is so well constructed that it feels like a single piece of metal. It’s that solid.
The frame features several pulleys that operate with the smoothness we would expect from a $2500 product. We apply Synethic Super Lube to all of our home gym devices that require a cable and pulley system and this product is no different. The $10 cost of the lubricant helps the trainer avoid any signs of drag, providing for a truly remarkable experience.
The frame also features laser-etched cable columns with 16 height adjustments. The handle and pop-pin setup are fairly standard. You won’t have any issues adjusting each pulling with one hand, just watch out for finger pitching which is common not only on this unit but on many of The Best Functional Trainers you’ll currently find on the market.
One thing to keep in mind is that the Rep FT-5000 is one of the larger functional trainers for a home gym. The unit comes in at 84-inches high, 72-inches wide, and 45-inches in depth.

Rep Fitness is always improving upon its own designs and there are a few V2 features they’ve recently added:
- Column handle height adjusts on wheels for super smooth 1-handed adjustments.
- Lowest handle height now allows users 5’3″+ to do standing cable curls next to the machine.
Admittedly, we didn’t get to test these on the original model, however, reviews of those features have shown them to be very effective.
Rep FT-5000 Attachments
I’m going to start off this section by noting that pretty much any functional trainer or cable machine attachment will work with most functional trainers. However, some of these units set themselves apart by offering quality attachments with the final price.
Rep Fitness offers a premium functional trainer handle set which we do recommend taking a closer look at, however, the standard included handles are pretty darn good.
With the $2500 price tag, Rep Fitness includes a pair of urethane strap handles that are perfect for single arm movements. If you want more handles and bars, they do offer a pro series of attachments for $250.
Here’s a photo of the additional attachments you can purchase directly from Rep Fitness.

You can check out the full pro series here.
They also provide a multi-grip pull-up bar that can be used for pull-ups and chin-ups thanks to a neat design that targets different muscle groups.

Rep Fitness also includes an exercise placard that demonstrates some great movements that can help get you acquainted with your new Rep FT-5000.
When you need to store your various attachments, there is also a built-in center attachment holder. It’s nothing to write home about but it gets the job done.
Rep Fitness Functional Trainer Shipping And Assembly
There are no corrugated boxes here. When you order the FT-5000, Rep ships it on a pallet with the side panels already put together. This helps ensure there’s no damage caused by the shipping of numerous boxes. Many reviews for the product have noted that Rep has gone above and beyond in terms of shipping.
Actual assembly will take several hours and a helper is highly recommended. To complete the process there are a few tools you’ll need:
- a metric hex key set (Allen wrenches)
- a metric wrench set
- a metric socket set
While Rep Fitness does provide written installation directions, I highly recommend you watch their installation video instead.
Rep Fitness FT-5000 Warranty
The FT-5000 comes with a fairly standard warranty. Rep Fitness offers a lifetime warranty on the frame. That lifetime warranty is fairly standard on these types of units given their 11-gauge steel and generally high-end commercial components that ensure solid lifetime use.
For pulleys, cables, pins, and other hardware, Rep Fitness offers a 1-year warranty.
